Many children in Mosul, Iraq have seen the tragedies of war firsthand, whether they’ve been injured themselves or lost a loved one. Thanks to World Vision’s child protection programme, children who became withdrawn due to trauma are regaining their confidence.
For example, 8-year-old Malak, who was injured by a bomb and became very shy and inexpressive, is now “enjoying studying and playing with her friends”, according to her sister Dalal. World Vision is helping children recover from trauma by:
- Pairing them with case workers to provide personal counseling
- Providing safe spaces in the city for play and educational activities
