Do you know what a MUAC tape is?

In northern Syria, your gift is educating mothers on what a MUAC is and how to use them.

A Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) tape allows mothers to identify malnutrition in their children at home. Early detection saves lives!

“I have been living in this village since the beginning of the conflict.

It’s almost 10 years.

It is important as a mother to measure my child using the MUAC tape without visiting the medical centre.

We live in a village and transportation is difficult.

And there’s a lack of access to medical centres.

The most difficult thing as a mother is being incapable of addressing my child’s needs, their most basic rights for example, nutrition and medication.

MUAC training is important for me because as a mother, I can measure if my child has malnutrition at home."

Mothers (left) receive and learn how to use a MUAC tape in the learning session. The sessions also serve as a community check up for young children who also lend an arm for the mothers to learn :)

Syrians have endured 14 years of devastating conflict. Whilst there have been significant changes in the past six months, life is still very difficult.

Over 14 million people have fled the country, while others remain displaced within Syria, living in refugee camps or centres.

To ensure our programmes provide genuine impact to Syrians we work with local partners. Local partners understand the needs of the communities in ways no one else can, because they are a part of the community. Our project officer explains...

“Here, we stress the importance of collaboration between local organizations, community influencers, and residents.

Our end goal is to ensure the provision of these services and to train mothers. To empower local organisations and encourage community representatives to enroll in malnutrition screening training.

This will ensure that we reach more people and provide this service in the future."

Food & Nutrition

Disasters, whether natural or manmade, often lead to food insecurity. Poor nutrition is an underlying cause of nearly 2.4 million childhood deaths each year.

People who had to flee their homes and their livelihoods are especially vulnerable and in need of food assistance. Nearly 400,000 Syrians, living as refugees in the Bekaa valley in Lebanon, have been enrolled in World Vision food programmes as they are hit hardest by Lebanon’s current economic crisis. We provide e-vouchers and cash options that allow families to shop for basic medication and home supplies.

  • Every 60 seconds a hungry child is fed through World Vision’s interventions.
  • 89% of severely malnourished children treated by World Vision make a full recovery
